We've been exactly where you are

hallostu was born out of frustration, late nights Googling German laws, and the feeling that someone should have just told us how this all works.

Our Story

We're a team of international students at Code University of Applied Sciences in Berlin. When we first arrived in Germany, we were hit with a wall of bureaucracy that nobody prepared us for. Anmeldung, Kirchensteuer, Meldebescheinigung — every step felt like navigating a maze in a language we barely spoke, with rules nobody explained.

We spent hours scrolling through outdated forum posts, asking friends who were just as confused as we were, and sitting in Bürgeramt waiting rooms hoping we brought the right documents. Sound familiar? We quickly realized that thousands of international students go through the same struggle every semester — and there was no single, reliable, easy-to-understand resource to help.

So we decided to build one. hallostu is the guide we wish we had on day one. An AI assistant that gives you verified answers from official German law, not Reddit rumors or outdated blog posts. Every answer comes with inline citations so you can see exactly where the information comes from.

Our Mission

We believe that understanding your rights and responsibilities in Germany shouldn't be a stressful guessing game. A Code University Project

hallostu was born as part of the MTM_02 | Agile Engineering Management course at Code University of Applied Sciences in Berlin. We founded it in February 2026 and are constantly working to expand it. Currently we cover Anmeldung, Kirchensteuer, and Kirchenaustritt — with more topics like visa, health insurance, and banking coming soon.

What started as a class project quickly became something we genuinely care about — fueled by coffee and a real desire to make life easier for every student who follows in our footsteps.
